Celebrating Friendship with Winnie the Pooh

pooh allDuring this time of Thanksgiving, I give thanks for friendship!

Disney films teach our children the value of friendship and how important it is in life to be a good friend.  I believe some of the best examples can be found tucked within the relationships in the Hundred Acre Wood.  That “Silly Old Bear”, debuted on this 6th day of November back in 1924 in a poem titled “Teddy Bear” by A.A. Milne.

In honor of Winnie the Pooh and friendship, today I’d like to introduce you to a Disney friend that I made when I happened upon her blog post, Teen Pooh Bear Party.  Her name is Alexis and she is the author of the blog Jac O’ lyn Murphy.  Alexis is so incredibly talented and reading one of her blog posts is like Pooh having “a smackerel of honey”, just one smackerel isn’t enough!

At Jac O’ lyn Murphy’s adorable movie viewing party of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh,  Alexis provided yummy honey treats for her teen daughter and her friends to enjoy. pooh treats alone Don’t they look so yummy?  Alexis provides a step by step tutorial on how to make them, complete with beautiful pictures!

Below is a photo of the girl’s party favors.  Don’t you just wish you were invited?  No worries, on her blog Alexis gives you the tutorial, again complete with photos, on how to make the deep conditioner.

Happy HallowSCREAM Favor Tag {Free Printable}

 Happy Halloween favor tag

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Today is a short post that may come in handy this week.   After my little “monsters” and I finished putting together Gavin’s classmates’ Monsters University-Inspired goody bags, I thought I’d create a simple tag for the back side of the bag. If you’re preparing your children’s classmates goody bags today, you may be able to use this tag too!   They are a basic white tag with a little eyeball in the center.  The tag simply states, “Happy HallowSCREAM”.   These tags could be used on any trick-or-treat goody bags!  I used Avery brand 2 1/2″ diameter glossy white round labels to print out the tags.  Using a sticker to apply the note was so easy!  If you’d prefer to use white cardstock, punch the tags out using a 2 1/2″ round craft punch and glue it on the back side of the bag, so easy!  Just make sure your little Monster remembers to sign them!

To use these tags, click on the Adobe pdf file below.

“Mistress of All Evil” Maleficent cupcake

This Halloween season I’ve had fun making cupcakes inspired by my favorite Disney villains.  Today I’d like to share with you, Maleficent!

Love Disney villains like I do?  Here are the links to check out the tutorials for other Disney villain inspired cupcakes!

To make this “Mistress of All Evil” cupcake start with a basic chocolate cupcake.Maleficent 002

To save time, I use Wilton Decorating Icing for a lot of my projects, especially if the cupcake needs black icing.  For this cupcake I used the two decorating icing tubes featured in the photo.  The tips used are round.

Maleficent 004

With the icing tubes and tips, draw an outline of Maleficent’s headpiece and face.  Once outlined, continue to fill in the top of the cupcake.

Maleficent 001

Melt black candy melts in a small bowl.  Using a spoon dip Bugle cone-shaped snacks into the chocolate.

Maleficent 005

Using a toothpick, remove the Bugle out of the chocolate and place it on a wax lined cookie sheet.  Place in the refrigerator until the chocolate has hardened around the tooth pick.

Maleficent 006

Place two of the chocolate covered Bugles in each cupcake to act as horns.  Then place the cupcake within another black cupcake liner to represent Maleficent’s collar.  To create the stripes around the horns, I used a Cake Mate Writing Icing.

Maleficent 013

That’s it!

Did you know that this special Disney villain will soon be sharing her side of the “Sleeping Beauty” story on the big screen?   The film, Maleficent, is scheduled to be released on May 30th, 2014.

I hope you all have a Not-So-Scary Halloween this week!

Top Five Disney Halloween Movies For Young Children

Disney World September October 2013 029Watching Disney Halloween Movies during the month of October is a fun tradition my family began when our son, Gavin was born.

October is a fun time for all.  From running through leaves, to carving a pumpkin, excitement surrounds young children.  Sometimes, Halloween can be a bit overwhelming to our youngest Trick-or-Treaters.  Since my family has two little goblins, we enjoy celebrating Halloween the “not-so-scary” way.  All of the movies that I will refer to today are Rated G.

Here’s my family’s pick for the Top Five G Rated Disney Movies to watch for Halloween.

Pooh heffalump halloween1. Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie

This movie became a family holiday favorite when my son was about three years old.  It’s absolutely adorable and perfect for a little monster.

House of Villains2. Mickey’s House of Villains

Although this movie was released to Disney DVD in 2002, eleven years later, it’s my son’s favorite Halloween DVD.  The film is made up of 8 vintage Disney cartoon shorts.  Not only is it my six-year-old son’s favorite, my two-year old daughter actually stays focused on the video too!

Spooky Buddies3. Spooky Buddies

Honestly, I’m not a fan of this film. However, I am including it in our top five pick list because the “Buddies” are in the film.  What can I say other than kids love talking dogs. Although the film is rated G, there are a few scary moments for very young children.

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr_ Toad (1949)4. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

What can I say?  It’s an old, but a goody.  The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad was released in 1949.  Within the film, the adventures of Mr. Toad will give you a chuckle.  The adventures of poor Mr. Ichabod might be a tiny bit intense for a toddler.  We waited until 1st grade to show this one.  Again, this movie is rated G.

monsters inc5. Monsters Inc.

Not intended to be considered a “Halloween” film, Monster’s Inc. is a heartwarming story of Monsters lurking into a child’s room at night.  What could scream Halloween more than that?  If you haven’t seen Monsters Inc. yet, it’s a fantastic film.  You’ll laugh, cry and of course, be scared!

As a reminder, if your kids love Sulley and Mike, Monsters University will be released to DVD on October 29th!

I hope this not-so-scary top five list puts you in the mood for some Halloween fun with your kids.  Pop some popcorn, stuff some goody bags for your little Monster’s classmates and enjoy the movie!

Jack Skellington Brownie Pops

Jack SkellingtonEveryone Knows that Jack Skellington is The Pumpkin King.  Today I gave Jack an additional title, The Brownie King.

Lately I’ve been making cupcake after cupcake but this weekend my son asked me for brownies.  With his adorable freckled face and two big new teeth coming in front and center, how could I say no?  Halloween is less than two weeks away and pumpkins surround us in our home, why not make some Brownie Pumpkin Kings?  If you know a fan of the Pumpkin King, why not surprise them this Halloween with a special treat?  Here’s the easy tutorial for you to follow.  In addition to brownie mix, you’ll need cookie pop sticks, white and black icing, and a drawing tip and decorator bag.

Disney Jack October 2013 011Using a 13″ x 9″ pan, sprayed really well with non-stick cooking spray, bake your brownies as suggested on the box.

Once the brownies are done, allow them to cool for an hour.

After cooling for an hour, place the brownies in the freezer for a half hour.

Disney Jack October 2013 012Using a paper towel with olive oil coat the base of a circle cookie cutter.  Press the cookie cutter into the brownie.  To remove the brownie cut around the circle using a plastic knife.

Disney Jack October 2013 015Place each brownie cut out on a wax paper lined cookie sheet.

Insert a cookie pop stick in the center of each cut out.

Place the brownie pops back into the freezer for an additional 15 minutes.

While the brownie pops are still cold, cover the brownie with white icing.

Disney Jack October 2013 021

Using black icing in a decorator bag with a writing tip, draw on Jack’s classic face.  It’s easier to draw his mouth with a very small writing tip opening.  I did not have a small tip, but used what I had to get them done today.  Don’t forget, my son was waiting for brownies!

jack skellington 001As a finishing touch, I added a little bow tie.

I hope you are having fun creating spooky treats this Halloween season. If you’ve made any Disney Inspired Halloween treats, I’d love to see them!   I have at least one more villainous treat to share before Halloween night!
